What you want are the McSorely Plans.I think they call for 16 gauge square tubing. I'm using 14.stronger and easier to weld because it is thicker/heavier. Build your own sportscar in the likeness of a Lotus 7, commonly known as a Locost 7 or Sevenesque Roadster. You can build your own car at home using Locost 7 chassis plans from this website such as the McSorley 442.

The frame gives in well for larger transmission, with a little help by Plasma cutter. The center tunnel of Locost is not that critical to the stiffness of the car, the sides and especially the roll cage will contribute to the stiffness much more.

All of them are based on the original Locost design, including the front end design to accomodate a standard nosecone and the suspension design found in "The Book."
