Increasing the effective participation of women in peacemaking and conflict prevention efforts is a key priority for the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA). The issue first made it on to the Security Council’s agenda in 2000, with the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
